Today is “Clifford the Big Red Dogs” 50th Birthday!
(We did some digging and found this present day photo of him – now retired, and settled in Santa Fe, NM)
It all started 50 years ago when author Norman Bridwell took three days to pen a
tale about a girl he named Emily Elizabeth (after his infant daughter) and her dog, Tiny. Bridwell’s wife, Norma, objected to the canine’s handle, proposing Clifford (for an imaginary friend she had as a girl) instead. “I never thought the book would see the light of day,” Bridwell says, “so it didn’t matter to me.”
Fifty years and 126 million Clifford books in print later, Bridwell, 84, is still creating new adventures for the iconic character.
Happy Birthday Big Guy!!
P.S. I have found that we as humans seem to have trouble controlling our bowels in the early infancy days of our lives, AND the later elderly days 🙂
So Cliff, let us know if we can help you out with some My Pet Peed – Pet Stain and Odor Remover. You know, just in case you laugh a little to hard, or sneeze. 🙂
