As dark as you can get the room, so you can see what shows up better. Just wait until night, turn off all the lights and go crazy around your house with the light 🙂

Sometimes the boxes get tossed around in shipment and the light will get turned on. Worst case, just replace the batteries. If you need more, we can send you out 2 more batteries.

Does it show if theres still residue?

Yes, the black light is to really just find the area to treat. There will always be an outline and area shown with the black light even after treated. Even dust shows up, it just won’t glow anymore. Meaning bacteria has been removed.
